FAQs

Settling In

Here at Little Dragons, we recognise and understand the anxieties of separation and change in the early years for parents and children. Letting go can sometimes be a difficult experience for both parent and child, but it is an important step in a child's development, and we are here to make the process as painless as possible.

Some children can be excited about starting nursery and feel ready for meeting new friends, playing with new toys, encountering new learning experiences and enjoying all that nursery has to offer right from day one. For others, the initial transition can prove more emotional and present some hurdles.

We are very experienced in easing the settling in process. Your child will be invited in for short sessions initially to get used to our setting. They will get to know their ‘Key Person’ and they are welcome to bring in a special comfort item. We will be led by your child’s needs and take every care to ensure they make the best possible start to their school journey with us, and we’ll keep in touch with you and be available for any questions or just to provide reassurance when needed.

We will discuss an individual settling in schedule with your family ahead of welcoming your little one to Little Dragons.

Session Times

Our core day’s schedule begins at 08.30 and ends at 15:30. You may choose a morning session from 08:30-13:30 or stay on for a second session until 15:30. More information on session times and settling in will be discussed in detail during a tour prior to admission.

To arrange a tour of Little Dragons, please email school.office@stgeorgesprep.co.uk or complete our Book a Tour form.

Clubs

Clubs are introduced to children that are in nursery for a full day, have dropped their afternoon sleep, and are ready for a new environment away from the nursery. These clubs are held in the afternoon, are led by outside providers and carry an additional charge. The clubs on offer vary each term and can include:

  • Socatots
  • Yoga
  • Mini boppers (dance)
  • Sports Bugs (multi-sports).

Each day we also offer before and after school care for Little Dragons from 08.00-08:30 and from 15:30-17:00.   Before school, you may bring breakfast and we will supervise children while they play and eat.  After school, the children will play games, read stories and have a snack that they bring to school.

Forest School

In all weather (appropriately dressed of course), we get outside and enjoy Forest School sessions lead by Forest School experts. The children work in teams to build dens and shelters and use natural resources to build bug homes and birds’ nests. They use tools to create Forest School pieces, make ‘Forest perfume’ and crowns and go on nature walks appreciating the flora, fauna and wildlife we have on our very own doorstep. At this age, Forest School sessions help our little ones to develop skills such as binding and knot tying as well as a general appreciation for nature.

Wrap Around Care

For our younger pupils, from Little Dragons Nursery to Reception, our wrap-around care provision is available from 08:00-8:30am based in Little Dragons Nursery. From 16:00-17:00 each day, Little Dragons Nursery and Preschool children can also stay on for families who wish to take advantage of an extended day.

There is also a ‘Late Room’ provision for pupils in Lower Prep (Reception-Form II) from 3:30pm-4:00pm, primarily to cater for younger siblings waiting for older pupils to finish their day.

For pupils in Reception upwards, a variety of morning and after school clubs are available each day from 4:00pm-5:00pm (unless otherwise stated). Places are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Clubs are varied and exciting, and a mixture of internal and externally run activities.
