As of Monday 8th June, St. George's re-opened to all year groups on a staggered basis. To say that we were delighted to welcome our pupils back to school is an understatement, but it was critical that our Covid-19 plans were all in place before we could contemplate opening. The safety of our pupils, staff and families remains at all times paramount and we are led by advice from the Department of Education and health professionals.

As with most other schools in Jersey, and indeed throughout the UK, we remained open to the children of Critical Workers throughout the lock down period. We used every hour, day, week and month in the interim to formulate our extensive plans and ensure that we would not only adhere to but exceed all safety guidelines as far as possible.

We readied ourselves to open from 1st June, and once we had permission from the relevant educational authority, we opened our doors again on Monday 8th June. In advance, we circulated our 'Return to School Agreement' to all families containing a detailed overview of our plans and safety procedures. We also filmed videos for each year group where we walked-through their specific arrangements when arriving at and leaving school premises. Everything we did was designed to ease any potential apprehension and answer any questions our pupils or parents may have. For our younger years, we also circulated a poster showing some of the things that would look different when they came back to school- including Mr Timothy wearing a mask and a visor! We wanted to limit any potential surprises, especially for little ones, and ensure that pupils were prepared and excited to come back to school.

The plans and preparation was all worth it. The return to school process was smooth and we have received excellent feedback from our families. Most importantly, pupils are back and learning together again. Virtual St. George's went so well thanks to the dedication of our specialist teaching team, but seeing our pupils face-to-face is so special and important to us all.

Mr Timothy would like to say thank you to his Senior Leadership Team, the entire teaching body, our support staff, maintenance team and of course our pupils and their families for their magnificent support throughout this extraordinary time. We would also like to say thank you to the members of our community who have gone above and beyond in their contributions, and to send our thoughts and prayers to those who have been tragically affected by this virus. In time, and with the gift of perspective, I know we will find a way as a school and as an island to discuss and reflect on everything we have experienced.

In an effort to find some hope and a positivity for the future out of what has at times been a dreadful and unpredictable period, it has shown the great humanity and selflessness that exists in our island, and the willingness to come together in whatever way possible to help one another. Here at St. George's that has been evident throughout, and it seems to have brought us even closer as a community. Thank you to everyone for the part you have played. We are overwhelmingly grateful that we've been able to come together again.
