Football v St. Saviour

St George's football teams played their third match of the season on Saturday against St Saviour's School.

The A team showed their fantastic team spirit against a very experienced St Saviour's team by defending with grit and determination throughout their match.  Kitty Tiefenthal made her debut in defence and made two great tackles to snuff out opportunities for St Saviour's. Unfortunately, the great attitude the team showed was not reflected in the half time scoreline. St George's went out for the second half 4-0 down. Reece Navsaria replaced Kitty for the second half, as the shape of the team was adjusted. Reece quickly found himself an opportunity to score, but his shot went narrowly wide. St George's impressive positivity should have earned them more from the game, but the size and strength of St Saviour's prevailed, as the opposition marched on to a flattering 7-0 final score.

The B team followed their midweek game against Trinity with another strong performance. They forced St Saviour's to defend for long periods, but found themselves up against an in form St Saviour's goalkeeper. The goalkeeping heroics prevented St George's taking the lead and St Saviour's managed to score a few goals of their own. Eventually, the B team's luck changed, allowing William McGowan to score his first goal for the school. A good move down the right wing led to an opportunity for William in the penalty box and he slid the ball home with ease. The 4-1 loss was unfair on St George's and if we continue to perform like this then a win is just around the corner!
