Readathon 08

At St George’s we will be holding a ’Readathon’. This is something that we do every other year.  Readathon is a national sponsored read which aims to raise millions of pounds for sick children.  The money raised by Readathon is donated equally to CLIC Sargent and The Roald Dahl Foundation, who between them spend it primarily caring for children and young people in the UK suffering from cancer, Hodgkin’s disease, leukaemia, epilepsy, blood disorders or acquired brain injury.

Our pupils from Reception to Form VI will receive a sponsor form as well a letter of information on Monday 11th February and sponsorship money must be returned to the school office by Monday 3rd March.  This will give the children three weeks, including half term, in which to read their books.

Please encourage your child to read as many books as possible over this period in order to support this very worthwhile cause. If your child is very young or not a keen reader, allow them to choose a magazine or comic, listen to a story on tape, or draw/ colour a book-based picture. Alternatively you could sponsor them to listen to you reading them a story. Please give them lots of encouragement and help them to find sponsors among friends and family. Grandparents can be very useful!

Please remind your child of the Readathon Code: Stick to friends and family and do not approach strangers.
