Colin Moore - Headmaster

Having graduated in geology, Colin spent three years working in London during the mid ’80s at various jobs ranging from dispatch riding and selling luxury apartments over-looking the Thames to acting as a guide in a large art gallery and assisting in the operating theatre of a private hospital.  He eventually found himself working with children as a classroom assistant in a school for children with extreme special needs and as a care worker with deprived young adults in a secure unit in Plaistow, London.  Both experiences were challenging but extremely rewarding and helped point him in the direction of teaching.

Colin completed a year at Kingston University to gain his Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).  He decided to follow a course in primary education as he firmly believes that it is in the early years that most difference can be made.  He left Kingston with something more than a teaching certificate having met Josie, his wife to be, in the lecture halls of south London!

Colin’s first teaching post was at a small school in Hackney in London.  A year later Colin and Josie moved to leafy West Sussex where he fell into the private school world.  After four happy years, Colin was appointed Assistant Headteacher at the impressive and prestigious George Watson’s College in Edinburgh - a school of 2200 pupils.  Five happy years were spent in Scotland before they headed south, with their two daughters, to take a headship at Sherrardswood School in Hertfordshire.  Nestled between the A1M, the M1 and the M25, they decided to move to rural Kent after only two years where Colin led Bodiam Manor School for five years before moving to Jersey.

Colin’s drive and enthusiasm for life - especially rugby - has endeared him to parents and pupils alike and the school benefits greatly from this.  At present, Colin’s focus is on working with the school’s governors on a review of the school in general and its long term plans in particular.
