GA Bonfire Party

Thursday 25th October saw our annual Bonfire Party take place.  The weather was kind to us yet again, with just the right amount of chill in the air to make it feel like winter!  The evening got underway with a fantastic display of illuminated carved pumpkins which the children had entered into the pumpkin carving competition.  There were four categories – Foundation, Forms I – II, Forms III - VI, and Family.  St Peter Deputy, Mr Colin Egré, and Sylvia Thompson, retired GA Chairperson, took on the task of having to pick a winner from each category - a very difficult job this year indeed, as the standard was so high.

In all there were 99 pumpkins to choose from and s adly it was not possible to make every pumpkin a winner, but well done to all those who took part.  Congratulations to the following winners:

Foundation                   - William Gollop

Forms I-II                    - Thomas Boarer

Forms IIII – VI            - Sam Thompson

Family                          - Alesha and Hannah Patel

After first checking with Air Traffic Control that the skies were clear, it was time for the main event to begin – a single rocket signalled the start of the display.  As usual, Vulcan Fireworks put on a fantastic display for us – superb rockets and star bursts with an abundance of whizzes and bangs.  A lot of gasps, oohs and aahs from the appreciative crowd proved what a wonderful display it was.  Once the display was over, it was time to light the Bonfire, and as usual, Mr Fawkes did not last long!  Thank you to the two Form I classes who built the Guys.

The whole evening had a wonderful, warm atmosphere, helped by the fact that the food this year was fantastic and the marquees were a real success.  Placing them on the terrace meant that no one was excluded from the festivities, even though the queues were very long!  Thank you to Mrs Cox’s class who made super signs for the food.  The Gluwein flowed, the children enjoyed getting sticky eating their toffee apples and popcorn and they had great fun throwing their light sticks – quite a few ended up hanging from the big tree!

Another fantastic and successful evening organised by the GA, so a big thank you to Mary Bassett and her Committee for organising the event, and a big thank you to all volunteers who helped on the night – without you, an event like this just cannot take place – we are very lucky to have so many parents and friends who like to get involved and support us!  See you next year!
