Mycology At St George's
The school grounds in the autumn have an abundance of wonderful things to see. Some children have become avid mycologists and found a range of fascinating mushrooms, bracket fungus and toadstools in the woodlands and gardens surrounding the school.
A spectacular clump of Russula Lactarius
vellereus
was discovered nestling under a hedge along
the school drive
A patch of Boletes were
found in the outdoor
classroom.
These children came across a
bracket fungus
at the base of
a huge holm oak that has recently
been pollarded.
This huge mass of giant polypore Meripilus giganticus caused the demise of a beech tree, the stump of which can be seen.
This bracket fungus is one the largest to be seen in Jersey.
