Harvest Festival Assembly

Nobody left the Harvest Festival Service without a smile on their face as parents, staff and pupils enjoyed a riot of colour and a symphony of sound.  Again this year we were delighted to welcome Father Martin to lead our Harvest Thanksgiving.  The dining hall looked a picture with beautiful flowers, appetising vegetables and an array of tins and packets generously donated by the pupils and parents - all set off by the colourful cornucopia backdrop created by Mrs Gill and the Year VI pupils.

A rousing hymn, ’Autumn Days’, captured the special mood of saying ’thank you’ and this was echoed in the poem, read thoughtfully by Mari O’Hara, the Head Prefect.  Young pupils in Key Stage 1 delighted us with two songs and the final musical offering was a superb rendition of ’Wonderful World’ sung movingly, in harmony, by the new choir which has only been together for two weeks!

Father Martin’s talk was a timely reminder, as we gazed on such plenty, of poor farmers struggling to make a living in poorer parts of the globe.  He commended Fair Trade products to us, which ensure a fair and consistent price is paid to farmers and their workers for their produce.  Form V will be running a Fair Trade stall in the entrance hall for the next week to raise its profile.

Finally, Form VI packed the offerings into boxes and bags and, with their Form Teachers, delivered them to The Jersey Shelter for the Homeless who were delighted to receive them and extended their grateful thanks to all concerned.
