Science
Mathematics
We believe that sound mathematical skills are crucial to success in life and throughout the School the development of mathematical skills and understanding are based on a graded core scheme as well as investigation.
Science
Our aim is to awaken an interest and understanding in scientific discovery and a desire to know how things work. We want to encourage children to think logically and to be prepared to put forward hypothesises that they can test for fairness and accuracy. The School has a well-equipped laboratory and the extensive grounds, Woodland Nature Trail and an outside teaching area provide an exciting extension to many lessons, particularly those involving animal and plant life.
Information Communication Technology (ICT)
Computers are very much part of life and our aim is for every pupil to be comfortable with and competent in the use of computers as a tool to aid their learning. From Reception, at the tender age of four, our children follow a structured course using the computer suite. The School is networked and many classes have stand alone PCs as an additional resource. Our childrern become proficient at manipulating information using a variety of content free packages that include word processing, data bases and spreadsheets. Touch typing is taught from Form 1 and this greatly helps children, especially those who struggle with the written word.
Reasoning
Verbal reasoning with an element of non-verbal reasoning is practiced weekly by children in Forms III upwards. This helps develop their powers of logical deduction and gives them plenty of experience in preparation for future senior school entrance examinations.
Design and Technology
Even our youngest children experience aspects of design and technology and by the time they reach Form II they are able to use our specialist resources in the Technology Room. A specialist teacher takes Forms III and above.
