English

Our aim is to kindle in our children a love of and feeling for language and literature.  Daily lessons see the formal teaching of core skills such as handwriting, spelling and grammar.  We hope to put our children on the road to being able to express themselves both orally and in writing with confidence, clarity and with originality of thought and word.  This is a process that starts in Nursery where pre-literacy skills and phonic work provide the foundation upon which all else is built. 

French

It is our aim that French should be taught as a natural and living language.  We believe the sooner our children hear the language the better and so lessons start as soon as a child enters Nursery.  From Form III upwards the children are introduced to written French and in Form VI they spend a week in France.

History and Geography

We believe that all children should develop a global perspective of history and geography from an early age, including an appreciation of environmental issues.  We also believe our children should gain practical and factual knowledge based, first and foremost, on Jersey and the Channel Islands but extending beyond our immediate community thereafter.

Religious Education

We follow the Jersey Curriculum by ensuring that our children are made aware of the major world religions - their beliefs, their customs, important festivals and significant figures.  Naturally, as the majority of our children are Christian the School places an emphasis on the teaching of moral and ethical values through Christianity rather than through any other religion.  We also seek to open their eyes to the dilemmas that face modern man; encouraging thought and discussion and guiding them in their choices and actions through the example we set.  Members of the clergy from different denominations regularly visit the School in order to lead assemblies.  Consideration is always shown when parents indicate that a child’s attendance at a ceremony compromises their own religious beliefs.
