Junior Sports June 2010
On a glorious summer’s day St George’s Preparatory School recently held their sports day. Form II pupils competed in a 40m sprint and house shuttle relay races. All children from Forms III – VI competed for their house in both field and track events. In the morning the children competed in the field events, all children did the long jump and throwing and selected children did the high jump.
In Form III the honours were evenly spread throughout the girls’ events with Thea Kembery winning two events, high jump and hurdles. In the boys’ section Flinn Tiefenthal won the overall Form III St George’s athletic cup winning both long and high jump and coming 2nd in throwing and all the track events. William McGowan performed well on the track winning all three races. In Formr IV Jess Henderson won the long jump and all three track events to win the overall cup. George Colbeck Welch also performed well winning three track events. Form V’s Alia Byron won the St Andrew’s Senior trophy winning every single event except the throwing. Also in this age group Thor Tiefenthal won the long and high jump, sprint and hurdles. In Form VI Joshua Daniels proved what an excellent all round athlete he is by winning every event and in the high jump clearing seven centimetres higher than the previous record, to set a new school record of 1.32m. He also broke the 85m sprint record with a time of 12.67s. Form VI pupil Florence Balderson also performed very well on the day winning both long and high jump and sprint and hurdles.

Mr Moore, Headmaster, congratulated the children on a splendid sports day and retiring teacher Mrs Jane Kiddie presented the trophies.
