Form V St. Aubin's Fort June 2010
Form VJ recently spent a week at St Aubin’s Fort, visiting in two groups. We had a brilliant time, especially since the weather was perfect for all the outdoor activities planned.
All of us had chance to go sailing in the Funboats on the very first day. Andy, our instructor, was funny. He gave us lots of challenges out on the sea and we quickly learnt how to manoeuvre the boat, using the rudder. We were able to jump in the sea too (BRRRR!!). The cold water didn’t bother us as we were wearing wet suits and of course we all wore a buoyancy aid. Andy joined us again to go kayaking. This time we went solo and paddled our own kayak. Andy showed us how to steer right, left and how to paddle forwards and backwards. We also experienced capsizing.
On Wednesday, when all VJ were at the Fort, we went on a Seaside Safari with Mrs Copsey. Lots of visitors stopped on the causeway to ask us what our project was! There was great excitement every time someone caught something unusual in their dipping net.
The dormitories were brill!! It was fun whispering in your bunk after lights out and being woken up by the oyster catchers in the early morning. We were sad to leave our Fort ’home’ at the end of the week but really glad to see our families once more. Tired, tanned and very happy we made the trip across the causeway one last time.
Of course the trip would not have been possible without our teacher crew; thank you Mrs Reynolds (champion brownie maker), Miss Maletroit (champion sailing coach), Mrs Fancourt (champion crumble maker), Miss Clavel (champion ’yee hah’ player) and the Captain, our Form teacher, Mrs Jones.
P.S. Please can we come and help the Form Vs next year?!!!!???
