Form V (J) Visit to Channel Television April 2010
And now for the weather........
Form V J was lucky enough to visit CTV recently. We had invited weather presenter, Mrs Sophia Bird, to take part in our Weather Assembly earlier this year.
Mrs Bird invited us to CTV to see all that was involved with putting together the local weather forecast each day. Our tour included a visit to Oscar Puffin’s studio, which was really tiny. We saw the gold coins at the end of the rainbow and where the puppeteers assist Harry Hedgehog and Puffin’s other friends! Andy in the graphics department showed us how the isobar chart and map of the Channel Islands were presented. He is also responsible for including the weather pictures sent in by local children.

The control room was really interesting. It was full of monitors and control panels. Hannah Collier stood on the recording spot in the main studio so that we could see her on screen back in the control room. Mrs Bird had a real surprise for us when we reached the main recording studio. All of us had the opportunity to present the previous day’s weather forecast! Mrs Bird made it seem so easy but in fact it was quite a challenge. Reading the script from a rolling screen and smiling at the viewers was fine. The real challenge was remembering to use the clicker at the appropriate time to change your weather forecast background and pointing in the right place - all this whilst reading and smiling!!
It was an amazing visit and some of us featured in the CTV lunch time news and again at 6.00 pm. Thank you to Mrs Bird and the staff of CTV for a fantastic morning.
