French Students Visit April 2010
Bienvenue a St George’s!
Form VI welcomed 48 French pupils from St Marie de la Mer, near Dinard, to St George’s to show them our wonderful school and give them a flavour of English education. The link was established because a past St George’s pupil, David Maudet, has his son at that school.
Our pupils were primed with appropriate ’school’ vocabulary by the French teacher, Miss Maletroit and, after some initial shyness on both sides, French conversations could be heard drifting around the corridors and playground.
The French were fascinated by our uniform (they do not wear one) and were amazed by, and a little envious of, our fantastic facilities, especially the sports hall and lovely outside space. They are a fee-paying school but they have more limited facilities and there are between 25 and 30 pupils in each class!
As a grateful ’thank you’, Madame Robin gave us a box of delicious Breton biscuits (bon appétit Form VI!) and they were fulsome in their praise of St George’s and the Form VI pupils who made their visit so enjoyable.
