The Queen's Baton 2009

The Queen’s baton at St George’s

Despite the pouring rain, the Queen’s baton made its way to St George’s on Friday 20th November 2009 at 9.55am precisely.  With only 10 minutes allocated to our school it was a tight schedule but fortunately the prefects managed to visit each class room carrying the baton, very carefully and according to ’baton protocol’.   Every child managed to see the Queen’s baton which they thought was very impressive!
The baton began its journey in London on the 29th October and has travelled around the British Isles, its destination after Guernsey (the last stop in the British Isles) is Gibraltar, where it will then travel to Cyprus, Malta, down through Africa, up through the Falkland Islands and Guyana, through the Caribbean and then onto Canada, through Oceania and Asia with its final destination being Delhi in India on the 25th June 2010 in time for the Commonwealth Games. It will have visited 71 nations, travelled in excess of a staggering 190ooo km in 340 days and been viewed by millions, and millions of people.
