Josie Moore
I graduated with a BA (Hons) degree from Leeds University in 1985 and then spent some time working in a preparatory school in Sussex. It was the enjoyment and fun that this experience afforded me that prompted my decision to train as a teacher. It was whilst at Kingston University that I met husband Colin. After gaining my PGCE, my first teaching post was at a primary school in Wandsworth. I was Music Co-ordinator there and at all the schools in which I have subsequently taught. I have held the post of Head of Music at two preparatory schools and thoroughly relished the challenge of both.
When the Moore family moved to Jersey there was a surplus of primary school teachers on the Island but I was fortunate enough to be asked to cover a maternity leave at FJC Convent for two terms. There I formed a choir which, from small beginnings, grew to a very enthusiastic group of forty plus. I also taught Music at Jersey College for Girls to students from Year 7 to A’ level which I found a rewarding and challenging experience, very different from teaching primary aged children!
I have two teenage daughters, one being a previous pupil at St. George’s who looks back fondly on her time here but can hardly say she misses it when she actually lives here! In my spare time I go for long walks (weather permitting!) with Barney the new chocolate Labrador. I continue to compose music and was fortunate enough to have some of my songs performed last year at the FCJ carol service and Form III performed my Bonfire Night songs in their Firework assembly.
In 2006 I joined the teaching team at St George’s to take responsibility for Form III and in September 2008 I was appointed to the Senior Management Team. I am passionate about education and believe St George’s provides children with the very best start in life.
