Jane Kiddie
I graduated with a BA Combined Honours Degree in English-Theology, at the University of Southampton way back in the 1970s before going on to obtain a PGCE in English and Drama, (University of Southampton) and a Certificate of Further Professional Development (Assessment), at Westminster College, Oxford.
I have been teaching for 30+ years, the first twelve of which were spent in the UK, teaching English to the 11-18 age group in secondary schools, including Burnham Grammar School, King Alfred’s, Wantage and The Abbey Girls’ School, Reading.
I moved to Jersey in 1989 to take up a post teaching the upper years at St Michael’s School. After 8 years there, I was offered and accepted a position at St George’s where I remain happily ensconced as a Form Teacher. The majority of my timetable is spent teaching my two specialist subjects but, at various times, I also teach other subjects in the primary curriculum. My time at St George’s is the longest I have spent in any one establishment and certainly ranks as one of the happiest, with super staff and delightful children.
I consider myself a life-long learner and enjoy being ’the other side’ of the desk, too. In 2007 I studied for the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore qualification and in 2008 I gained my Coastal Skipper practical qualification. Now, I am in my second year of Intermediate French evening classes. I love reading, the theatre and travelling. I also play badminton and enjoy rambling but my principal hobby is sailing and, in particular, yacht racing. I am on the Sailing Committee of St Helier Yacht Club and regularly participate in club races and regattas. I am also a proud part-owner of a Dehler 34 racer -cruiser.
