Form VI Bench

Along with the oohs and aahs and smiles which always accompany the GA Bonfire Night Spectacular I saw the odd moist eye or two as I accepted a new addition to the School’s outdoor furniture.

I was there to take delivery of a new wooden bench and a sapling which were given to the School by the Class of 2007 – last year’s Form VI – who had gathered again at "the Old School" with mums and dads with a gift to say "thank you" to the teachers and staff at St George’s.  These boys and girls, now almost teenagers and a head or two taller than when last I saw them, had wanted to mark their passing in a permanent way and it gave me enormous pleasure to meet them again and accept the gifts and kind words.

I am amazed, again and again, by children and long may that continue!  It is part of the attraction of the job. The bench and sapling can be found, well used, in the top playground together with a small brass commemorative plaque.
