Form VI at Careers Fair

It’s never too early to be thinking about careers – this is the view of the Jersey Careers Service who invited all Year 6 children in the island to attend the comprehensive careers fair at Fort Regent.  Most of the major employers were represented and were more than happy to talk to the children and give an insight into their jobs and the qualifications needed to do them.

The children toured the exhibits in pairs. They had 5 or 6 questions to which they had to find the answers.  There were different questions for each pair so that all areas could be covered through discussion back in the classroom.  There were lots of ’freebies’ for the students including: pens, bags, stickers, tee shirts and smoothies – all of which went down well!   Interestingly, Health and Social Services were handing the teachers stress balls!

Memorable moments included Jack Gulyas peering through an over-large fireman’s helmet and Emily de Gruchy’s beaming smile on a large television screen, reading the news! I am pleased to report that the children were very well behaved and their smart appearance was commented on by a number of the exhibitors.
