GA Barn Dance Report
Sounds of whooping and laughter, not to mention guitars and drums, emanated from the marquee on the lawn outside the school this week. The G.A. organised a very successful cowboy-themed event to make good use of the marquee which had been erected for the school’s annual themed ball.
The children were treated to ’finger-licking’ chicken and fries produced by the school kitchen and served in individual decorated boxes, followed by delicious ice-cream with juice to wash it all down. The yummy lunch proved no obstacle to the energetic dancing that followed.
Pupils entered into the spirit of it all by wearing their ’cowboy’ gear. There was a plethora of checked shirts, neckerchiefs, Stetsons and cowboy boots. Law and order was maintained by several sheriffs sporting their starred badges. Foundation and KS1 took the earlier slot and were mesmerised by the live band, The Barnstormers. They soon recovered their equanimity and enjoyed improvised dancing as well as more organised group dances. Happy smiling faces betrayed their obvious enjoyment.
Year II joined KS2 for the later slot which was equally energetic and enjoyable. The infectious rhythm of the band inspired even the ’coolest’ cowboys to abandon their inhibitions and gyrate on the dance floor. The band’s caller organised group dancing which was largely successful but very funny when it all went wrong!
A big thank you has to go to the GA, staff and The Barnstormers who made it such a successful event.
