Form II B Assembly - Great Fire Of London

Parents and friends were transported back 342 years to 1666 as Form IIB brought to life their history topic of The Great Fire of London.

Samuel Pepys read out extracts from his famous diary while his descriptions were acted out by the children of the Form II B. They portrayed how the fire began in a bakery in Pudding Lane; how the King and the Lord Mayor of London handled the situation; the methods of fighting fires in those times and how people fled from the fire. They also highlighted the differences that exist between fire fighting past and present.

In addition, some children read out poems that they had written on the subject of fire, using imaginative adjectives. The children ended the assembly by singing London’s Burning in a round, as well as a song written especially for the assembly containing the main facts of The Great Fire.

The children did a fabulous job of emphasising why this event is such an important part of British history and it was clear to see how much they had learnt about this significant event.
