Georgian Association

Who is the Georgian Association?

The Georgian Association (GA) is a body of parents and friends of the School . It organises social events that bring parents, pupils and members of the public together for fun and entertainment. The GA also raises funds to support projects and activities that enhance the experiences of the children at St George’s.

Membership of the GA is informal and open to anyone connected to the School be they parents, past pupils, teachers or just a friend. Its aims are to work alongside the School providing ever-improving facilities and to build on the elements of friendliness and consideration for others that are part of the School’s ethos.

The GA is run by a committee, which is elected from its members at the Annual General Meeting held each September. Meetings are held once a month to coordinate a programme of events for both parents and children throughout the year.  Fund raising provides parties and outings for the children and social events are an opportunity to meet other families and friends of the School.  Participation is not compulsory and can range from organising an event to simply attending and enjoying it.  The committee is always happy to welcome new members who might wish to ‘lend a hand’ without becoming a committee member.  The GA is a wonderful way to meet other parents and to contribute in a very real way to the wellbeing of your child’s school.

A parent from each form acts as a class representative for the GA. They are an important link between the GA and the parents, often providing information, co-ordinating class events such as cake sales and generally undertaking a supportive role.

The GA shop is open regularly and the times are posted on the website and on school notice board where you will also find the details of committee members and class representatives. Details of imminent events are published in the Headmaster’s weekly bulletin - ‘The Week Ahead’ and are posted on the GA page of the website.  The GA also maintains a notice board in the front hall.

GA funds cover the costs of arranging fun filled parties for both Infants and Juniors at Christmas, Easter and at the end of every school year.  We also provide lollipops on sports and beach days, support numerous Form VI activities, sponsor visits by authors and artists for interesting assemblies as well as subsidizing larger school projects such as providing a school minibus, climbing frames for the upper playground and fun play equipment for the walled garden, upgrading the kitchen facilities and most recently providing interactive whiteboards for every class room. 

The GA also runs the school uniform shop, arranges tea and cakes after sports day and cakes (via the parents) for monthly cake sales throughout the year.

What do we do?

The Georgian Association is an active PTA committee who organise a wide range of activities throughout the academic year. The Georgian Association welcomes new members!

Annual events include a Bonfire Night party, Snail racing, a Summer Fair and Christmas Party.
